Adventures of Northern Armenia

"Adventures of Northern Armenia" is a route where history and nature come together with the chance to add a little adrenaline to your journey.

In a single day we'll head to green Tavush, see ancient monasteries among mountains and forests, visit Enokavan, where those who wish can choose active entertainment at the Extreme Park, and finish the trip on the shore of Lake Sevan.

The first historical stop will be Makaravank Monastery — one of the most beautiful medieval monastic complexes in the Tavush region.

The complex was built mainly in the 10th–13th centuries and is set among forest-covered mountains.

Makaravank is especially notable for its stone carving and decorative ornamentation. Its walls and architectural elements preserve intricate patterns, plant motifs and images characteristic of medieval Armenian art.

Its remoteness from major cities and the surrounding nature give this place a truly special atmosphere.

After getting to know its history, we'll head to Enokavan — one of Armenia's best-known spots for active outdoor recreation.

Here you'll find the Extreme Park, surrounded by the forests, gorges and mountain scenery of Tavush.

During the stop, those who wish can choose from the park's available activities and entertainment.

This is the part of the route where everyone can spend their time their own way — add a bit of extreme adventure to the trip, or simply relax and enjoy the nature of Enokavan.

From there our route continues through the green landscapes of Tavush to Haghartsin Monastery.

The monastic complex lies among forests not far from Dilijan and was built mainly in the 10th–13th centuries.

In the Middle Ages, Haghartsin was an important spiritual and cultural center of the region.

The monastery's stone architecture, surrounded by dense forest and mountains, makes Haghartsin one of the most atmospheric monastic complexes in Northern Armenia.

The final stop of the journey will be Lake Sevan — one of the largest high-altitude freshwater lakes in the region and one of Armenia's main natural landmarks.

Sevan sits at an altitude of about 1,900 meters above sea level and is surrounded by mountain ranges.

After an eventful day, you can relax a little here, take a walk by the water, and watch how the lake's color changes depending on the weather and light.

This is how our journey through Northern Armenia ends — from medieval Makaravank, through the adventures of Enokavan and forested Haghartsin, to the shores of Sevan.

Who this tour suits

"Adventures of Northern Armenia" is especially suited to those who want to combine history, nature and active recreation in one trip.

The route appeals to families, groups of friends, and travelers who want not only to visit historical sites but also to spend part of the day amid the nature of Enokavan.

The Extreme Park activities are optional, so taking part in them is not mandatory.

This is a packed route lasting about 12–13 hours, letting you see completely different sides of Northern Armenia in a single day — ancient monasteries, forested mountains, the adventures of Enokavan, and Sevan.
