Jeep Tour: Gegharot — A Waterfall on the Slopes of Aragats

"Gegharot — A Waterfall on the Slopes of Aragats" is a high-mountain journey for those who want to see Armenia's wild nature, far from the usual tourist roads.

Ahead of us is an off-road route across the slopes of Aragats, alpine meadows, mountain rivers, and one of the trip's main natural highlights — the Gegharot waterfall, located at an altitude of about 3,000 meters above sea level.

Mount Aragats

We set off from Yerevan toward Aragats — the highest mountain massif of modern Armenia.

As we climb, the familiar landscapes gradually give way to open high-mountain spaces.

Then begins the part of the route this tour was created for: we leave the asphalt behind and continue the journey in off-road vehicles.

Jeep Tour on the Slopes of Aragats

We switch to 4×4 off-road vehicles and head along the mountain road toward Gegharot.

Ahead lie dirt roads, rocky stretches, small fords, alpine meadows, and almost untouched high-mountain nature.

As we gain altitude, ever more sweeping panoramas open up.

There are no ordinary tour buses or urban infrastructure here — only mountains and a road that only an off-road vehicle can handle.

Gegharot Highland Valley

The road runs through the valley of the Gegharot river, among the open slopes of Aragats.

In the warm season, alpine meadows appear here, and even in summer patches of snow can linger in certain high-altitude spots.

We'll make stops at beautiful panoramic points for photos and rest.

Gegharot Waterfall

The main goal of our journey is the Gegharot waterfall.

It lies on the slopes of Aragats at an altitude of about 3,000 meters above sea level.

Cold mountain water falls from a height of roughly 17 meters, and around the waterfall are open high-mountain expanses, rocks, and alpine nature.

Gegharot is especially interesting because it looks completely different from waterfalls found in forested gorges.

Here the whole surrounding landscape becomes the main attraction: a waterfall amid the high mountains on the slopes of Aragats.

The Walking Part

The off-road vehicles take the group as close to the waterfall as the state of the mountain road and weather conditions allow.

After the jeep part, a short walking stretch remains.

This is not a classic multi-kilometer trek from the foot of Aragats. We cover the main distance in the off-road vehicles.

The walking part follows the natural mountain terrain — grass, rocks, and, in places, wet ground near the water.

Time at the Waterfall

Time is allotted at Gegharot for a walk, rest, and photos.

Here you can simply stop and feel the atmosphere of the high mountains — the sound of the water, the cool air, and the vast open spaces of Aragats around you.

After resting, we return to the off-road vehicles, descend from the mountains, and head back to Yerevan.

Who This Tour Suits

"Gegharot — A Waterfall on the Slopes of Aragats" is a great fit for lovers of mountains, wild nature, off-road adventures, and unusual natural spots.

No special mountaineering training is required, since most of the mountain route is covered by jeep.

That said, you should be ready for rough terrain, high-mountain weather, and a short walk over natural terrain.

This is not just a trip to a waterfall — it's a full journey into the highlands of Aragats, to where the ordinary road ends.
