Jeep Tour: Armaghan Volcano — Above the Clouds

"Armaghan Volcano — Above the Clouds" is a journey for those who want to see a completely different Armenia: high-mountain roads, volcanic landscapes, a crater lake and places that ordinary tour buses never reach.

On this route a classic sightseeing excursion is combined with a real off-road adventure.

Lake Sevan

Our journey begins at one of Armenia's main natural symbols — Lake Sevan.

Sevan sits at an altitude of about 1,900 meters above sea level and is surrounded by mountain ranges.

Here we'll make a stop to see the high-mountain lake, rest a little and enjoy the panorama before continuing on into the mountains.

But the main part of our route begins further on — where the ordinary road ends.

Jeep tour into the mountains

We switch to off-road vehicles and head along mountain roads toward Armaghan.

The asphalt gradually falls behind, and open high-mountain expanses and volcanic terrain appear around us.

Along the way beautiful natural viewpoints and photo stops await us.

Here the road itself becomes part of the journey: off-road terrain, mountains, wide open space and panoramas far from the mass tourist routes.

Armaghan Volcano

The main point of our jeep tour is Mount Armaghan, an extinct volcano of the Gegham highlands.

Armaghan's height is about 2,829 meters above sea level.

Thanks to the off-road vehicles, a significant part of the ascent can be covered without a long hike on foot.

As we gain altitude the landscapes become ever more sweeping, and from the upper sections panoramic views open up over the surrounding mountains and highland expanses.

Crater Lake

One of Armaghan's main features is a small lake located right in the crater of the extinct volcano.

It is precisely the combination of the volcanic crater, water and surrounding mountains that makes this place so unusual.

There will be time here for a walk, rest and photos.

In clear weather wide panoramas open up from the height, and when the clouds hang low the atmosphere of Armaghan changes completely — sometimes it feels as if you are literally above the clouds.

Panoramic Viewpoints

During the jeep route we'll make stops at the most beautiful available viewpoints.

There is no city bustle, no large tourist groups and no usual infrastructure here.

Only mountains, volcanic landscape, clean air and open space.

After resting and walking we begin the descent by off-road vehicle and return to Yerevan.

Who This Tour Suits

"Armaghan Volcano — Above the Clouds" suits travelers who love mountains, nature, off-road trips and unusual locations.

It's a good option for those who want to see high-mountain Armenia but aren't planning a long, demanding hike.

The route is especially interesting for lovers of beautiful panoramas, photography and natural landmarks.

Keep in mind that this is a jeep tour through mountain terrain, so part of the road runs off-road and involves jolting, climbs and descents.

Access to the high-mountain sections depends on weather and road conditions.

This is a journey to where the asphalt ends and a completely different Armenia begins — the Armaghan volcano, a crater lake and mountains above the clouds.
