To the “Heart” Mineral Geyser

“To the “Heart” mineral geyser” is a journey to Jermuk, where we have combined the most beautiful places of this mountain spa town with a real jeep adventure and a swim in a natural hot mineral spring.

The first stop is the famous Mermaid’s Hair waterfall, one of the symbols of Jermuk. The water comes down the rocky slope in many thin streams, creating an unusual cascade. There will be time here for a walk, for photographs and for getting to know the nature of Jermuk.

Next we head to the Arch of Dreams, one of the loveliest panoramic spots of the spa town. It opens up views of the gorge, the mountains and the surrounding nature. A modern tradition is linked to this place: to stop at the arch, look out at the mountains and make a wish.

The next point is the Mineral Water Gallery, one of the best known places in Jermuk. The town has been known since ancient times for its natural mineral springs. In the gallery you can taste mineral water that comes from springs of different temperatures.

And once we have seen the spa town of Jermuk, the most unusual part of our journey begins. We transfer to off-road vehicles and set off along a mountain road to the “Heart” mineral geyser. The road runs through natural mountain terrain that ordinary tourist transport cannot reach. That is why the drive itself becomes part of the adventure — off-road tracks, mountain scenery and a completely different atmosphere far from the city.

And at the end of this road the main thing awaits us: a natural hot mineral spring in the open air. The geyser lies in the mountains at more than 2,100 metres above sea level. The temperature of the mineral water is about 32–33 °C, so you can bathe here and enjoy the cool mountain air at the same time. From time to time the spring starts to bubble — mineral water and bubbles rise from the bottom, creating the effect of a natural jacuzzi. One of the natural pools is shaped like a heart, which is why this place is often called the “Heart” geyser.

There is time here for bathing in the warm mineral water, for resting and for photographs among the mountains. The feeling is especially unusual when the mountain air is cool and you are in warm mineral water under the open sky. This is not an equipped city pool or a spa complex — it is a natural spring among the mountains, and that is exactly where its special atmosphere comes from.

After bathing and resting we return in the off-road vehicles and head back to Yerevan. In a single day you will see a completely different Jermuk — a waterfall, mountain panoramas, the famous mineral waters and a real hot spring, the “Heart”, hidden among the mountains.

This route suits those who love nature, mountains, jeep adventures and unusual experiences. We especially recommend it to anyone who wants not just to see Jermuk but to feel its main natural feature — to bathe in warm mineral water right among the mountains.

The route does not require a long hike, but the road to the geyser runs off-road in four-wheel-drive vehicles. Bathing is optional. Those who prefer not to get into the water can rest by the spring and enjoy the surrounding nature.

The “Heart” mineral geyser

The highlight of the route is the off-road drive to a natural mineral spring in the mountains of Jermuk.

The water temperature is about 32–33 °C.

The spring sits at more than 2,100 metres above sea level, so you can be in warm mineral water and enjoy the cool mountain air at the same time.

From time to time the water starts to bubble, creating the effect of a natural jacuzzi.

There is time during the stop for an optional swim.

What to bring for bathing

If you plan to bathe in the geyser, be sure to bring:

  • A swimsuit or swimming trunks
  • A towel
  • Spare underwear and dry clothes
  • Spare shoes or water shoes
  • A bag for wet things
  • A warm jumper or windbreaker

After bathing we recommend drying off well straight away and changing into dry clothes, as the mountains can be cool and windy even in summer.

Important when bathing

The mineral geyser is a natural spring, not an equipped city pool.

The bottom and the stones by the water can be wet and slippery, so please take care.

It is not advisable to stay in the mineral water for a long time without a break.

If you have cardiovascular conditions, blood pressure problems or other medical contraindications, follow your doctor’s advice before bathing.

Bathing is not compulsory — you can simply rest by the spring and enjoy the nature around you.

What the jeep ride is like

The road to the geyser runs through mountain terrain and off-road stretches, so part of the route is covered in four-wheel-drive vehicles.

Expect shaking, uneven stretches of road, climbs and descents along the way — that is a normal part of a jeep tour.

Access to the geyser depends on the weather and road conditions. In bad weather the route may be adjusted for safety reasons.

What else we recommend bringing

  • Comfortable closed shoes with non-slip soles
  • A hat
  • Sun protection in the warm season
  • A jumper or windbreaker
  • A small snack

Bottled water is provided by Amaras Tour.

Meals

Lunch is not included in the price of the tour and is paid for separately.

There is time during the excursion to rest and to eat.

As the trip lasts 11 to 12 hours, we also recommend bringing a small snack with you.

Weather in Jermuk

Jermuk lies high in the mountains, so the temperature here can be noticeably lower than in Yerevan.

It can be especially cool by the geyser after a swim.

Even in the warm season we recommend always bringing a jumper or a windbreaker.

Duration of the excursion

The tour lasts about 11 to 12 hours.

The actual time of return to Yerevan may vary slightly depending on traffic, the state of the mountain road, the weather and the length of the stops.

The order in which the locations are visited may change for organisational reasons, without any change to the main programme of the excursion.
